McAlister Angus originated as Republic Ranches in 1963 and has been a member of the American Angus Association from 1965 and has been owned and run by members of the McAlister family since that time. We are located in Northwest Arkansas near Huntsville, Arkansas in a gentle curve of the Kings River. The purebred Angus herd started as a registered group and was maintained as commercial until 2000. The present herd grew from a small group of thirty-six purebred cows to one of the largest registered herds of Black Angus in Arkansas. This was facilitated by the infusion of 50 head of registered heifers from Huckfelt Farms in Gordon, Nebraska, and a strong AI program utilizing some of the top producing Angus bulls in America.
We are very fortunate to have had a close relationship with the University of Arkansas Department of Animal Science, especially Dr. Hayden Brown of the Bovine Genetics program and Mr. Bill Lindsey, University of Arkansas cattle management program. They have provided invaluable support on our breeding and management programs. Dr Mark Hubbard, DVM has provided exemplary care for our animals over the last ten years and also provides the semen testing and accurate pregnancy checks needed for a successful breeding program.
Present owners are Jodie McAlister of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Kyle McAlister of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Jodie is not only involved in the cattle business, but also is an avid rider and currently rides with area fox hunting groups. Kyle and his family own Shadow Acres Farm (shadowacresfarm.com) in Mountain Home and Southern Missouri. They have a commercial Angus herd and his daughters breed and show Arabian hunter/jumpers on a national level.
Jodie and Kyle are always happy to “talk cows” with anyone interested in discussing their breeding program, sales, or general trends in the cattle business.
We would be happy to have you come visit the farm anytime,
--- Kyle and Jodie McAlister |
